Capturing The Landscape

I always want to take great pictures of the landscape when I go on holiday. At least I would have some remembrance of the places that I’ve been.

Who knows in 10 years time the same spot that I snapped the picture has turned into something else, it might be a historic journey to flip through the digital album years later.

I am reading about the tips on taking great landscape pictures. There are a few useful tips that I think I will try next time I carry my travel luggage.

Check out this easy to read article: How to Take Landscape & Scenic Photos. It mentions about the technical aspect of picture taking, like depth of field, shutter speed etc.

It is also very important to note at which part of the day you are taking the picture because harsh lighting will ruin even the most scenic spot.

So if you want something that more practical to try, check this another article: 7 Tips for Shooting Great Landscape Photos.

Maybe it’s about time that I get myself a cable release to use instead of the timer function on the camera.

How To Take A Portrait Photo

Since I was away for the weekend trip to an island, I have been having a great time taking a lot of pictures, mostly scenery, plants and of course the beach. I don’t really like to take pictures of people..hehe!

So today I thought I will learn something that I don’t really like, just for the sake of gaining new knowledge.

How do you like to have an extra tips or two when it comes to take portrait pictures? Check out this site’s article on Portrait photography - Physical likeness & character make a good portrait. I like the part where they say that a good portrait should be able to bring out the character of the person or any living beings into the picture.

I will try to implement what I learn from the site soon. I just hope I have a volunteer to pose for me..haha!

Photograph Your Pet

Pets are lovable creatures. Their antics make you smile on a bad day (at least for those who don’t have child), otherwise your child will take the place.

But I found it is so hard to photograph them well. Like children, they move non stop except when they are sleeping. So I’ve decided to find tips on the Internet on how to take better picture of pets. There are quite a number of sites which are useful, one particular have great pictures of pets’ poses.

In summary, there are few tips you have to know such as get to know the pet’s personality, take the picture on the same level of your pets, mix up your framing, consider your lighting, try to freeze the action and include people in your playful attempt of taking a great shot of your beloved pet.

Check also another great site on pet-ography. There is also a link to the late Oolong the bunny and see how the squirrels became their own photographers. A brief info on how to tackle pet photography is also available here.

Stock Photo

If you are into photography perhaps the term stock photo is not that rare to you. When I bought the expensive cameras (another bad spending habits I have), I thought maybe I can earn some cash from the new hobby. So I looked around and subscribed to few photography newsletter just to learn the tips and tricks in the photography world.

If you would like to know the basic of stock photo, then I think this piece of article is a great help. Check it out! Read through it and I’m sure you will learn a thing or two about what is stock photo, what they mean by royalty free and so on and so forth.

There is also one link to e book about how you can earn cash from online photography deals. It sounds great but I don’t have extra cash to invest in it. Maybe once I get my pay out from PPP I would be able to invest on the e book and share whether the contents are useful or not. :)

1,2 Action

I always have problem when taking picture of people in action. It is either the picture is out of focus or I miss the action that I want to take. Perhaps better judgement of time and the power of anticipation will help to minimize my problem.

I also do my research on how to improve my skills by reading articles written on the web. One article I’m trying to digest and practise is this one. I found many useful tips and will surely try to implement it next time I’m taking pictures on people in action.

Hopefully next time I will be able to take better pictures. :)

Nikon D50-Child Mode

nikon_d50_front.jpg

I co-own a Nikon D50 and only recently I have been able to fully utilise it. All these while I just used my point and click Sony T30 for most of my photography venture. Of course with the DSLR, I look more pro, handling the bigger and better camera compared to my T30..hahaha.. though I have to admit I still have not touch the manual.

While researching for this entry I know that the Nikon D50 has six intelligent Digital Vari Program modes. I always accidentally choose Child mode while taking pictures of my students doing the handcrafted works without actually knowing the function of it. So read about the Child mode here. The excerpt from another site said,

“A new function available with the Nikon D50 is ‘Child’ mode, ‘Child’ mode is a pre-programmed mode, ideal for the family user allowing the photographer to take great images of their children. Skin tones are naturally smooth without sacrificing vibrancy. Settings within this mode are optimised for photographing young children giving them a healthier colouring. ISO sensitivity is automatically controlled and the saturation and hue are suitably adjusted.”

For more info on Child Mode in Nikon D50, check this site. I guess next time I should choose other Mode since my focus is not on the colouring of my students’ hands..hahaha..

Personally, I have no regret spending big bucks on the gadget. For those thinking of owning one, check this review. Perhaps it will help you make up your mind. :)

I was searching for tips and correct techniques to implement in my photography quest when I stumbled upon this site. I find the tips are very useful and the pictures are too good and look yummy, enough to entice people to eat if posted on the restaurant’s advertisement fliers and posters.
While I continue to Google for tips, I found this link is useful as well. It has links and tips from other site (though some are not available anymore). But at least it has excerpts from the non existing sites. :)

While I was searching about product photography, I came across sites on catalog design. It is good for people in merchandise business to actually understand the concept as it helps to establish the brand. One particular site has tips and guide on how to take your own product pictures if you could not afford to hire the professional. Check this out. Oh BTW, the picture of the peanuts was taken from the peanut site’s online catalog. Now I’m craving for peanuts..huhuhu…
