Surrogates

Summary taken from imdb.com,

In the not too distant future, technology allows humans to live their lives through robots they call surrogates. Humans have in effect cocooned themselves in their homes, never venturing outside. Rather, they explore life through their surrogates who may or may not resemble them.

Tom Greer and his partner Peters are FBI agents assigned to investigate the destruction of two surrogates that has also caused the unthinkable: the human hosts were also killed. The use of surrogates is not universally endorsed with some humans living in technology and machine-free zones.

Led by a man called The Prophet, the fear is that they have put their hands on a weapon that would fundamentally change human society. Greer believes they have also put their hands on a weapon that could fundamentally change society, though he begins to wonder if that might be a good thing.

I finally got to watch this movie after watching the trailer. If you are a fan of Bruce Willis and a sci-fi movie buff, you might love this movie.

2012

Synopsis taken from tribute.ca:

Centuries ago, the Mayans left us their calendar, with a clear end date and all that it implies. Since then, astrologists have discovered it, numerologists have found patterns that predict it, geologists say the earth is overdue for it, and even government scientists cannot deny the cataclysm of epic proportions that awaits the earth in 2012. A prophecy that began with the Mayans has now been well-chronicled, discussed, taken apart and examined. By 2012, we’ll know we were warned.

I finally got to watch it last weekend while my son was napping. The DVD quality was not very clear so many important dialogues were lost. But it was a good movie, give me something to think about if the apocalypse is really happening soon..huhu!

Valkyrie

I am not really into war movie, but I watch almost all movies with Tom Cruise in it..heh!

Check out the synopsis taken from Fandango.com:

At the absolute height of World War II, German generals hatch a daring plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler and effectively render the German war machine impotent.

Directed by Bryan Singer, Valkyrie stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the real-life mastermind behind the elaborate plot known as Project Valkyrie: a plan to assassinate Hitler and overthrow his government from the inside.

Stauffenberg has been a loyal soldier and an asset to the Reich for his entire military career, but after losing an eye, a hand, and three fingers in an Allied bombing, he reaches a breaking point. The destructive madness that his country is unleashing on the world has become too terrible for the colonel to stand silent. He joins the resistance movement - a treasonous act, punishable by death and risks his life and the life of his family for the chance to change history.

Comprised of high-ranking officials working in secret, the German Resistance has access to the inner workings of the government and military, putting them in the perfect position to dispatch the dictator and then use his own official contingency plan to seize power - before the army, the S.S., and loyal party members can put someone just as diabolical in the Führer’s place.

Miss Potter

A few weeks ago I managed to watch this movie on DVD. I always like movies based on British lifestyle so I thought it will be a good choice to spend 92 minutes learning about the life of the children story book author, Beatrix Potter. I’ve heard about classic illustrated children’s stories such as “Peter Rabbit” but never know about who wrote them. Plus I always like Renee Zellweger as an actress.

Here is the synopsis taken from imdb.com:

Thirty years old and single, Beatrix Potter lives in London with her social-climbing parents, who are exasperated that she has turned down any number of eligible young men. Her only real friends are the animals which since childhood she has lovingly drawn and made up stories about. She finally succeeds in selling a book of the stories, and it becomes Norman Warne’s first project. He quickly falls in love with both the book and Beatrix and together they carefully arrange publication. This proves the first of many successes, offering her the possibility of escaping from both her parents’ way of life and London.

I have another movie to look forward to. It will be coming to local cinema in March although it is stated in the trailer that it will be released in February 2008. I think it is more a less like any other adventure movie specially for kids and those adult with young hearts..heh!

Here is the synopsis:

Rambo 4

I think January is like a slow month for my movie watching mission. Apart from Sweeney Todd and Alien vs Predator 2 movie, there is one interesting movie to be watched. Check out Rambo 4 trailer.

The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers.
