Chinese New Year

In my country where we live in multiracial community, it is common to know about different events celebrated by another race. At least to have public holiday on the day itself and to listen and see the lion dance when your Chinese neighbour invites the dance troupe over to get rid of the evil spirit in the household.

When I was younger, we used to go to Chinese friends’ houses, greeting them Happy Chinese New Year while eating the Mandarin oranges and all the tidbits they served during the celebration. The house will be decorated with red packets hanging on the pussy willow trees and usually they will have a pot or two of the orange calamansi lime plants. There will also be goldish pineapple as it resembles gold and prosperity.

For those who would like to know what is the history behind this celebration, check this site out. For more info, check also this site. May this year, the year of Golden Boar will bring happiness and extra prosperity to everyone. :) Happy Chinese New Year!
