Financing Your Life

* This post is written for Nations Finance*

I’m shopping for personal loans. At the rate that I’m using all my credit cards, I think I will be in the list of bankrupt people soon. Luckily I don’t have any big mortgages yet.

Read this article it says that in 2006, housing debt was one of the fastest growing problem. Quoted from the article,

“Consumer debt, which includes credit cards and other unsecured personal loans, was the biggest problem area for people seeking help from Citizens Advice.”

It’s true that if people stop borrowing money from their credit cards, it means that they are borrowing from other sources including overdraft.

While we are still on the topic of financing your life, do you know that you can make money out of your saving accounts? Read this article on how do bank account works. Check more articles regarding bank accounts here.

Do you know that different type of accounts give you different interest rate and this is paid daily or annually. Like they say in the website, if your bank pays less income than the current saving account’s rates, perhaps it’s time for you to freshen up your finance. It won’t hurt to learn more about personal finance.

Come to think of it, my car insurance is going to expire soon. More reason to get personal loans faster.

Stock Photo

If you are into photography perhaps the term stock photo is not that rare to you. When I bought the expensive cameras (another bad spending habits I have), I thought maybe I can earn some cash from the new hobby. So I looked around and subscribed to few photography newsletter just to learn the tips and tricks in the photography world.

If you would like to know the basic of stock photo, then I think this piece of article is a great help. Check it out! Read through it and I’m sure you will learn a thing or two about what is stock photo, what they mean by royalty free and so on and so forth.

There is also one link to e book about how you can earn cash from online photography deals. It sounds great but I don’t have extra cash to invest in it. Maybe once I get my pay out from PPP I would be able to invest on the e book and share whether the contents are useful or not. :)

Credit Cards Trap

*This post is written for CreditCardStore*

I like this issue, not that I like people to be trapped in credit card debts. I wish they don’t go to where I’ve been - welcome to hell of credit card trap.

When I first started working, I never bother to look for best credit cards deals. Everyone after their first 3 months working seemed to be having their own credit card. So why bother to look for best deals. You just take whatever the sales person offer you. Looking back I should have done a thorough credit card comparison in the first place.

Within a year, I have 6 credit cards and my excessive shopping habits brought me to the brink of depression. Most of the credit limit have been reached and all my pay every month went to paying the minimum. I should have known better than to destruct myself that way.

Now that I’m wiser I’m thinking of doing 0% balance transfer on the existing credit cards I have. Whenever I receive the credit cards statements every month, I feel a complete lost looking at the amount of finance charges (the interest) the banks charge me. I have stopped using some of the cards (yes, they have reached their credit limit) but when you think back how much you can save if you don’t have the interest, I should have educate myself financially long time ago.

I think in my country there is no such thing like cash back credit cards, where the credit card company will deposit certain amount of cash provided that you pay all your credit card bills on time and pay them in full. I think it is a good idea for people to realize that they have to spend within their means and not think that credit card is an easy way to borrow money. In short terms maybe it will be a great help to start out your life but if you go on living on your credit cards limits, you will be in their trap forever.

Good financial education is the way to go, get to know what the credit card company has to offer before you sign the application form. :)

Craft

Glass Painting

rose2.jpg

I found something I want to learn next..haha..Glass Painting! Not sure whether people know about this craft, but they look good (for those who like colorful stuffs) and does not look too intimidatingly hard to try.

Check this site out. When I Google for glass painting, it takes me a while to dig out those that relates to my kind of glass painting. There are sites which tell glass painting in details including the one that you need kiln to burn, (too much hassle for me, I don’t need to burn my house to be crafty..haha)

There is also one great site which provides guides on glass painting. Check it out. There is also one online store selling all the necessary materials for glass painting. Check it too. While on it, I have new ideas to venture. All these craft supplies just make my head feel giddy with excitement.

While browsing further, I found one personal glass painting site which I like. She made all sort of things like cards, sun catcher (this is something that glass painter has in their syllabus..hahaha), candle holder and candle stick, bottles, you name it as long it is glass. The picture above was taken from her collection of suncatcher.

I will try this glass painting on my own based on what they taught online. If it doesn’t work then I know a shop which conducts such glass painting lesson. Way to go suncatcher!

I, Monitor You!

*This post is written for SpectorSoft*

I love this internet monitoring ideas. Really, I do! Just imagine the power you have, every email the employees sent can be tracked and read afterwards. This is just the right cause for extreme blackmailing for those cheaters. I think I will start with eBlaster for my 3 employees. Well, this is the number of staffs that I’m planning to hire once my SOHO has to move beyond my square shaped room and this one computer table becomes few cubicles. :)

I’ve worked in corporate world before and I know how many of those workers staying back for the sake of free Internet connection in the office. They pretended that they have tonnes of works to be completed while they were browsing the Internet, visiting those websites not complying with company Internet Usage Policy. Yet the boss thought those employees were the hardworking guys and gave them more performance bonus based on the extra time filled up in the time sheet.

Once my company grow bigger then I will use Spector 360. No more chatting with friends during office hours. Now I sound like extremely dictatorial boss. Well, you can’t blame me because I know some people who spend 5 out of 8 working hours chatting with their friends using Instant Messenger, Gtalk and whatnot. If the IT admin of the office blocks such utility, they resort to emailing using company’s email address. Gossip and rumours were passed through the emails like chatting. What a waste of company’s productivity.

I think I will find it funny reading all the transcripts of their chats and emails, as long as they don’t talk bad about me. I hope I won’t be the hateful boss like in the series The Office.

The High Price of Gas

The High Price of Gas: Four Ways the “Idea” of Your Business Can Cost You Everything edited by Kim Castle, BrandU®

[NOTE: Some words in this article may have been disguised to avoid triggering sp*m filters.]

Last week I was exercising in the canyons of Southern California by climbing hundreds of stairs. I love being away from my business because I’m fr*ee to expand for at least 60 minutes.

Out of the blue an idea for a completely new product came into my mind and it wouldn’t leave. It grew so strong it drowned out the Black Eyed Peas blaring from my IPod.

It started out soft like a tickle and before I knew it my thoughts weren’t my own.

I started seeing the product and how it was constructed; all the way down to what color the stitching was and where the logo would go.

I got excited about how there wasn’t a product like this on the market and how it would radically change the way people did something.

My heart soared with the charity that would benefit from the overflow of the millions of dollars it would generate. In my mind, I even started contacting people that could connect me to manufacturers in China.

Before I knew it, I wasn’t climbing stairs… I was soaring. I was high off an idea — from the fumes of a gas.

If you’re an entrepreneur you know the high I’m talking about. You may even be an “idea junkie”. You know who you are. It’s okay — awareness is the first step.

You also know the pain that often comes along with it; especially the pain of not making it real fast enough and getting people to buy it as quickly as possible before the next idea comes.

When speaking to entrepreneurs around the world about branding, I often refer to the “idea” of a business like a gas — like air. It’s “there” in feeling, but it doesn’t have form. It’s the translation from the idea into tangible form that traps so many and prevents them from ever getting beyond the high.

Here are four ways that just the “idea” of your business could cost you everything and what you can do about it.

*It’s not real — until you make it real.
Without getting your idea out of your mind and into a tangible form it’s just a possibility; only serving you in the moment that you think of it. There are many ways to make it tangible even at the beginning.

Example: One client of mine, before she worked with me, would pay thousands of dollars to have her book jackets designed BEFORE she even wrote the book. Just beware, while this does get the idea out of you into a form you can touch, it’s done so with great risk. Without first establishing the core of idea from the inside, that outside influence could take you away from what the business or product really is. That’s why the way we approaching branding is vital in the beginning of a business or product development.

*It’s so flexible — there’s nothing there.
Without putting up walls (or mental blinders) by establishing what an idea for a business really is and what it is not, you are at the mercy of the hundreds of potential business ideas that your brain is feeding you daily(each one is more exciting than the last). Trust that each idea carries with it a great potential. But they are just an idea until it’s impacting a customer’s life.

This is why the entire first half of our branding process doesn’t even involve the customer. We focus on creating the door and house that they will walk into and want to stay. What your idea is, is a solid half of the relationship you have with your customer.

*It’s worth nothing — until you add interest.
While you have experienced the idea, just having it is not unique. At the same exact time, someone else could be having the same exact thought. After all, we all feed from the same pond.

What makes it unique, is what drives your need to create it. People don’t just buy because they have nothing else to do. They need a reason to choose one thing over another. It’s the very same reason that drives you to take action on just a thought.

*It means nothing — until it means something to someone else.
People can’t buy your idea unless they can connect to it in a way that impacts their life.

Think about what it would be like trying to sell someone air. It’s the same as selling them your idea. It needs to be clearly translated into a tangible and emotional experience, if you truly want to move beyond the feeling it gives you.

That said, your ideas do have great value at the start of a business. Without ideas, you’d have nothing to act on. But ideas are just the spark to get you started. They feel so great because it takes a lot of fuel to create something out of nothing. That fuel is excitement.

By harnessing that excitement with form, foundation, reason and connection, you’ll have what it takes to share your idea “high” with the world. And they’ll gladly pay for it.

The Silk Road

taji2.jpg

As promised earlier, I will write about my next daydream trip on The Silk Road..hahaha..As much as I hate World History subject during my high school years, now I found it useful.

I researched more about the Silk Road and I found it interesting. If you watched Alexander then you will realized that Silk Road was featured in the movie as part of his conquest into Asia. From Wikipedia sources, it says that Alexander founded the City of Alexandria Eschate at the mouth of the Fergana Valley in Tajikistan. With the expansion of his empire into Central Asia, it has created the first major step in opening the Silk Road between the East and the West. For more details on the history, check this out.

Well the above picture is Tajikistan. Check more at this site. Now I feel like a National Geographic team..ahaha..

Teen Treatment

* This post is written for Echo Malibu*

Lately in my country, there seems to be an increasing number of teen problems - issues like drugs and alcohol. However from my personal point of view, society tend to make the issues worse by pointing fingers and blaming others. What I think will help to encounter such issues is by creating more centers which can provide adolescent treatment program like Echo Malibu.

The whole philosophy of their treatment program sounds holistic. Rather than blaming and breaking down the spirit of those teens that come for help, they assist the youth in becoming strong, accountable for their choices in life and give hope to both the clients and their families.

I’ve read through their website and feel that with that kind of approach, those youth with troubling minds will realize that there is still opportunity and life ahead of them and it will be a waste not to choose the greater path, over the addiction and abuse they inflicted on themselves.

I particularly like their therapy programs such as the animal assisted, expressive arts, art, drama, music, dance/movement and poetry therapy. It gives a different feeling of realizing that simple act of drawing, dancing and writing will help those who find it difficult to express themselves in traditional talk therapy to connect with their inner self.

I hope by giving out awareness about such center like Echo Malibu, people will realize that there is always hope and light at the end of the tunnel. Like their quote in the Philosophy section, all crises are opportunities for growth and change.

Luxury Travel

egypt01.jpg

I know this is part of my daydream, but who cares…hahaha..check the site out. I can only imagine myself being a super tycoon someday, taking time off from my hectic schedule, going on luxury travel.

As I’ve watched both the Mummy and The Mummy Return, it would be great to visit Egypt and see it for myself- the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, the Step Pyramid at Sakkara, the famous Temple of Luxor. Then once I’m done with one destination, I will visit the next one, and
of course one of the 5 luxury destinations is Dubai..hahah..

If you have any intention to go vacation in Dubai, then check this one out. It has comprehensive info about Dubai - hotels, attractions, shopping, entertainment and so on.

Personally I would prefer to see more pictures so that I would be able to stretch my imagination. :) My next daydream will be about Silk Road. I will write about it in a little while.
